Multiple choice questions seem to lead the students towards how many answers are valid. For example, the instruction ‘Select one answer’ is given to users. The decision whether to publish this lead should be left to the assignment creator rather than system.

It is up to the assignment creator. If you would like to allow (possibly) multiple answers, or none, set the limit to 0. The instruction then will be ‘check all answers that apply’. The default is 1, which is the normal situation for multiple choice questions.
