Jonathan:

This is a feature request. I gave Dirk at CPC session scheduling information, and he incorporated it into the data that he provides to conf.researchr.org. However, conf.researchr.org does not appear to use it, so now I have to add the sessions and times again. It would be nice to import that, if possible.

Me:

Hi Jonathan,

We don’t support importing scheduling data right now. We might add this feature, but it comes with some complexity. It breaks with the current workflow and hierarchy of responsibilities, where session slots (with its start/end times and locations) are created at the conference level and get assigned to tracks. Then, talks are added to these session slots at the track level by the maintainers of the track. The idea here is that track organizers can only touch the session slots that are assigned to their track, so they cannot change/break other parts of the schedule.

Also, the location data (i.e. rooms) from imported data might already be in the system, and the system should then associate it to the existing entity somehow. Or an interface should allow one to do this.
And more issues come to mind when thinking about updating the schedule with imported data.

For now, I’ll add this request to our issue tracker, but without a concrete milestone. We might also think of other alternatives, where only an initial session schedule can be imported from CPC or other formats.
