The game autosaves while going down but not while going upstairs - 1.0.290 Android
I reached the deepest level of the first cave with no exit or else, so I decided to go back upstairs but each time I climbed up I didn’t see the “game saved” message.
LoY 1.0.290, Android 2.2, HTC Desire
