After about 5 days of suspending to disk and resuming on a system using ati_unfree it will fail to suspend to disk. The memory usage of xorg seems to gradually increase over time and the system slows down a bit too. I also had the same symptoms on Debian Lenny (5.0) and I suspect that a newer xorg or ati driver may improve matters. The problem has persisted over several versions of the proprietary ati driver.
