Based on the code, nixos-install-archive only cares about configuration.nix and nixos/nixpkgs sources. To be safe it should use the generated closure of modules, filtered out nixos repository modules, and include extra modules such as hardware-configuration.nix which is generated by “nixos-option –install” as suggested in NixOS manual.
