Based on feedback my Martin on MM:

In the Question Machinery, I throw an error in evaluateAnswer if the answer of the student cannot be parsed to be evaluated. However, the box that shows up is the same blue box, only that the evaluator now gives the text that I provided: “Got a malformed expression, …”. In case of an exception, would it be possible to show a red instead of a blue box? Then, students would immediately notice that something went wrong. Especially in an exam setting, I could see them gloss over the feedback text and just move on, thinking they answered despite the fact that they might have had a typo in their answer that prevented parsing.
