When submitting an assignment, the assignment view (Course -> Assignment) doesn’t indicate that the assignment has been started or completed. It is necessary to first press the “your submission” button.

Right. The assignment view of a folder gives statistics for all students of the assignment. These statistics are only visible to students when statistics are published. The information about individual submissions is visible under ‘your submission’. These are really different views, and it is by design that they are different. But I can imagine that this confusing. I’m not sure what to about it though.
