Reconsider linking arrow key shortcuts to filter widget (in grading mode)
The grading shortcuts are not currently linked to the filter widget, which might seem intuitive to expect.
When we introduced the filter widget, we also struggled with this decision. Since the keyboard shortcuts are only active in grading mode, our primary goal was to ensure that graders could navigate through submissions in a “grading order,” maintaining a personal, randomized sequence. This approach helps to eliminate any potential bias in submission quality, which might arise when sorting by last-saved date (default in filtered view). Additionally, it minimizes the likelihood of two graders simultaneously grading the same submission.
I think we should reconsider linking the arrow keys to the filtered list of submissions. The filter widget has been extended recently with the option to order submissions differently, and it now defaults to “grading order” when entering the “grading mode”. This may already have the same effect as why we decided to keep the arrow shortcuts unlinked from the filter widget
