At this moment, a new contextual profile for person x is created whenever x is assigned a role within a conference con(the context). E.g. when x becomes author of a talk in conference con, the system creates a profile for p used in context of conference con. This new profile is a (deep) copy of person x’s most recent profile. Changes to this new profile, or in general to any of the profiles, won’t be synced to the other profiles. Also, the changes to one’s global profile (contextless profile) are not synced.
This way, person profiles viewed in the context of an old conference shows the affiliation and bio of the person at that time.

However, this logic is not clear to users and isn’t easy in use anyway.

Our new proposed behaviour is as follows:

  • Any person has one global up to date profile, which in the typical case will be the only profile he/she, or a content-manager, should update.
  • Contextual profiles are no longer copies of other profiles, but a reference to one’s global profile, until the conference has ended. When a conference ends, a snapshot copy is made of the global profile at that time.
