I would like to be able to star both individual events and whole
sessions. For instance, today I plan to attend the whole “concurrency”
session, and also an individual talk by my friend. My calendar would look
a bit neater if I didn’t have to have each individual talk as a separate
event, if I know I will definitely sit through the whole session.

We might add a star all events in session-star and create a single calendar entry with the session name and names of the events in the ical version in case a whole session is starred.
